UNDERWAY!! Looks like there are 44 people in the playoff pool (pending receipt of all entry fees). Therefore with 44 people, the prizes break down as follows:
I have updated the standings and included everyone's picks for this past weekend. There are only 2 people who went 4-0... Rusty Raider and Curlie. Only 10 people went 3-1... the other 32 people all got either 1 or 2 points (no one went 0-4). The spreads are posted for the second round, so you can go ahead and make your picks. Again, there are 2 games Saturday and 2 games Sunday. I plan on having everyone's picks posted before the first game starts (or just after) so everyone knows where they stand with respect to everyone else. REMEMBER... once the first game of the weekend starts, you CANNOT change any of your picks. In other words, you cannot pick only Saturday games on Saturday, and then wait until Sunday to pick the Sunday games. The spreads for the Wildcard games are already posted, and you can make your picks at any time. REMEMBER... we need to receive your entry fee for the playoff pool before any games begin (this Saturday)... so send us your entry fee right away if you want in, OR tell us to deduct the fee from money you may have won in the regular season pool. Results Congratulations to Bullies for winning week 15 in a 4-way tie breaker! Actually, both Bullies and Lucky Liam guessed the same total score for Monday's game (41... the actual total was 40), so we had to go to the next level tie-breaker... who guessed closest to Monday's winning team's score... which was Philadelphia scoring 30 points. Bullies guess for Philly was 28 (28-13), while Lucky Liam's guess was 24 (24-17). So Bullies wins the $100 prize... congrats! We once again have a tie atop the overall standings... this time between Bullies and Eddie the Eagle... both are 2 points ahead of The Wildstoners and Porkster & Raroo. STOP THE PRESSES... for the first time in 8 weeks, we have a new booby prize leader... Brady Bunch is now our biggest loser with just 94 points, 1 less than Nightengale (who posted an impressive 11 points this week). It takes WORK to do that bad!! There were a few people who submitted picks AFTER the Thursday game was played. In those cases, we simply didn't count their Thursday pick, but all the rest of their picks were counted. This number may be adjusted, so I'm not going to bother adjusting the year-end prizes just yet... until we know exactly how many people are in based on received entry fees. FYI... Punt to me Patty was 10-0 at one point yesterday. I was starting to think we'd have our first perfect week in the last 13 years!! Remember.... if anyone can do that, it's worth a $200 bonus in addition to the $100 weekly prize. But then she went 2-2 in the last 4 games yesterday... good try though! 1 in the books The first game of week 1 has been played, and the NY Giants covered the 4.5 point spread as they won by 9 points... anyone who picked the Giants got the point :) There were 131 people who submitted picks, and 91 of them picked the Giants. A good start for most! There were 8 others who submitted their picks, but only after the game had started.... so they cannot get credit for game 1. They WILL get credit for the rest of the games this week, as this always happens when there's an early game in the week. In fact, I fully suspect there will be many other people submit picks in the next few days, before Sunday's games... as many people forgot about there being a game last night (despite my reminders)! So if I were to guess, I'd say we'll have at least 140 people in the pool again this year. Having said that, we have not yet reconciled our list of people who have paid for the pool, with our list of people who have made their picks. I believe we only have about 95 people down as having paid... which means there are almost 40 people of the people who submitted their picks who are ineligible to win this week (unless we get your money before Sunday's games). For those who want to pay via email money transfer (the quickest way), send it to lisa@bishmore.com as Lisa is the one who looks after the money. For those who want to mail a cheque, send it to: Lisa Moore One last thing.... PLEASE.... do not call us with your picks, or leave them on our answering machine. If you cannot make your picks online, you cannot be in the pool. This is an internet-only football pool. At one time (10 years ago?) it used to be a fax pool where people faxed in their picks, or even called them in.... but we do not have time for that anymore (2 kids, jobs, family, you know the drill).... you must submit your picks using the form on this website each week. I hope you can understand.... we cannot be taking calls on this as there are 130+ people in the pool, and we do this for fun, not as a job. If this is a problem for anyone, then SEE YA!!! and it will be ready to go shortly. NOTE: I'm sending this email to
everyone who was in last year's football pool, playoff pool, or who
asked to be put on the mailing list. The NFL season starts shortly after the labour
day weekend. Therefore, we don't have much time to get our
list of this year’s participants ready. If you want to participate,
you must get your name on our participants list.... and you do that by
sending in your $50.00 entry fee for each team you want to enter (yes,
many people enter more than one team). The best way to send us your entry
fee is by cheque to the following address: Lisa Moore Or for those who want to send an “Email Money
Transfer”, send it to lisa@bishmore.com. The entry fee is once again $50.00 for the entire
year, and you should send it to us right away..... since we need to
receive it prior to posting the week 1 spreads on (or about) August
30, 2008. We would like to set the prize money before we start, and this
year don't want people to be entering their picks in prior to having
paid the entry fee. SO SEND US YOUR ENTRY FEE RIGHT AWAY :) We know
there are always people who forget or leave it to the last minute, but
it would be really helpful if we didn't have to scramble to get your
name added just before the season starts..... so do us all a favour and
drop it in the mail today!! ... And include your name with your entry fee so we
don't have to guess who you are by the name on your cheque!! If entering more than one team, please include the
names of all teams you're paying for. The pool will be run exactly the same way it was
run in previous years: Last year we had 141 people in the pool, the year
before we had 128, and 104 the year before that. First place the last
couple of years has been set at $1,200, $800 for 2nd, $600
for 3rd… and so on, down to $100 for 15th. Since
we pay out all entry fees as prizes, the final prize payouts won’t be
able to be determined until we know how many people have entered. We the
organizers of the pool do not keep any money for running the pool.... we
do it for fun :) The weekly prize has historically been the exact
same as the entry fee…. $50… so if you win a week, you win your
entry fee back. However last year we had so many people in the pool, we
doubled the weekly prize to $100 and the year-end prizes were able to
stay roughly the same as the year before. We may end up doing the same
thing this year if we get a lot of people in the pool. That's it!! So.... we need to hear from you ASAP if you plan on
participating. If you don't plan on participating, then let us know that
too, so we can take your email address off our mailing list (we don't
want to be accused of sending SPAM!!! :). Also, please forward this
email to the people you know of who also want to be in the pool....
or who were in the pool last year but may not have given us their email
address. We don't want anyone to be left out. Tell them the pool is
starting up again!! Also.... feel free to tell your friends about the
pool, as we always welcome new participants!! You can either send their
entry fees in for them, or forward this email to them so they can send
it in themselves. Finally..... we like it when you send in multiple
entry fees in one cheque along with a list of all the people you're
paying for. So for example if you and a group of people at your office
are all going to join, it would be great if someone could gather all
their entry fees and send them to us at once. Not necessary, but
